FUCHS UK secures contract with global automotive supplier Amtek
FUCHS UK has won a three year contract to supply and manage all coolants and lubricants to Amtek Aluminium Castings (Witham) Ltd.
With 34 manufacturing facilities throughout the world, the Amtek Group has rapidly become a frontrunner in the global automotive component manufacturing and assembling industry. The Witham site, in Essex, supplies aluminium component solutions for a variety of automobiles.
The contract was awarded partly based on the successful trial of a new water-soluble metalworking fluid, FUCHS ECOCOOL ULTRALIFE A.
Mike Fletcher, Operations Director at Amtek Aluminium Castings (Witham) Ltd, said: ‘We were extremely pleased with the results from the trial. It demonstrates FUCHS’ continued investment and commitment to research and development. It was because of the quality of their products, as well as the excellent levels of service that FUCHS was chosen over other fluid suppliers.’
Richard Rogers, FUCHS UK Industrial Product Manager, explains, ‘ECOCOOL ULTRALIFE represents the Advanced Coolantology concept that simply explains what we have achieved with this range; innovative coolant technology that satisfies the demands of the UK metalworking industry in today’s competitive market.’
ECOCOOL ULTRALIFE A is a semi-synthetic metalworking fluid designed for heavy duty machining applications on aluminium alloys, as well as the machining of stainless steels and automotive aluminium castings. It was developed with current and future HSE guidelines, biocide directives and waste disposal issues in mind. It has a biologically hard formulation that helps to extend coolant life, reduces the need for tank side additions and cuts fluid maintenance and monitoring. This consequently lowers fluid consumption, reduces waste generation and minimises disposal costs.
Amtek proved to be the perfect testing ground; any coolant problems were eliminated and the fluid was reported to offer excellent machining performance in milling and drilling applications on aluminium alloys (LM24). Although no fluid maintenance or tank side additions were required during the trial period, coolant life was extended and fluid consumption was reduced considerably, even when it was running at lower concentrations.
