Self contained system
High accuracy on straightness, waviness and roughness are obtained in a new shop floor instrument
Taylor Hobson has launched an addition to its Surtronic portable surface roughness range, Surtronic 25S. The product has a high accuracy straightness datum for roughness and waviness measurements over a range of components, with waviness, wear and R&W analysis functions built-in.
The extended gauge range (0.5mm) and 25mm straightness datum allow this portable unit to measure curved components such as cylinder liners, turbine blades and gearbox housings at the touch of a button. The stylus reach allows a range of features to be measured on these types of components. The Surtronic 25S is designed with an ergonomic stylus lift mechanism and friction drive to ensure ease of setup. Its intuitive menu structure and large, clear LCD screen allow rapid set up and measurements. The
The comprehensive software with built-in memory ensures that the Surtronic 25S is a truly self-contained measurement system, with no PC or printer cables to get in the way while measurements are made and stored. The Surtronic 25S can then be connected to a printer or PC whenever convenient for report generation (optional software is available for PC downloads).
In addition to the standard roughness parameters, the Surtronic 25S includes waviness parameters, wear analysis (Rk) parameters and R&W motifs. A total of 28 parameters have been carefully selected to cover the most common requirements to check lubrication, feed rates, stresses, friction and wear properties. Additional parameters can be calculated and the measurement profile analysed in depth with the addition of optional Talyprofile software.
The Surtronic 25 also offers extensive flexibility in terms of accessing component features such as steps, grooves, bores and lands. The skidless stylus has a vertical adjustment of up to 50mm and can be rotated to various positions for right angled or even inverted measurements. This feature, plus an extensive range of pick-up options, allows areas and features of a component to be easily measured without the need for additional fixturing.
